Our October Volunteer session concentrated in preparing for a series of activities to coppice the last remaining area of original planting in the Hazel Plantation. This entailed clearing a pathway for the dry hedge, creating a line of supporting stakes and cutting down numerousHazel “stools” to use as material to lay the Dry Hedge.
Even though the weather this time was rather inclement, the rain didn’t dampen the team’s enthusiasm. Great progress has been made to the site, the dry hedge is taking shape and it is evident the traditional woodland skill of coppicing is being demonstrated.
